Arsenal v Stoke – Preview & Predicted Starting Line-up – Have your own say on who you think will start!

Arsenal v Stoke
19:45 – Wednesday 23 February 2011

Arsenal are set to start one of the busiest periods in their season so far, as they host Stoke at the Emirates on Wednesday evening. This game will be the first of five games in four different competitions in 14 days, as Arsenal look to progress as far as possible in all competitions.

Under usual circumstances, you would think that a game against Stoke at the Emirates should be an easy game for the Gunners, who have conceded only 12 goals at home all season. But the Arsenal team suffered an untimely draw at Leyton Orient on Sunday, and that is bound to have a knock-on effect on confidence all around.

Stoke have only scored 12 goals in away games this season, but are sitting at 10th in the Premier League at the minute, with 6 points between them and the relegation zone.

Previous games against Stoke haven’t been as easy as should be. Although Arsenal won both league games last season, Stoke managed to knock the Gunners out of the FA Cup in the 4th round. Arsenal fans may also remember Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross, the player who managed to break Aaron Ramsey’s leg last season, causing him to miss a year’s worth of football.

Djourou will be fit to start. It sounds like RvP and Koscielny wont be taking part.

Predicted starting line-up:

Sagna Squillaci Djourou Clichy
Wilshere Song Fabregas
Nasri Chamakh Walcott

Predicted score-line:

Arsenal 3 – 0 Stoke City

So Arsenal fans, lets hear your opinion on who you think should start, or what you think the score would be. Over to you!

My main hope is that our players escape injury from thugs like Shawcross who really should not be in the game anymore. I trust that the ref for the night will be strong and fair. And he should allow added time for all the ball drying by Stoke before throw-ins. Can’t see why the second string’s result last Sunday should have ANY effect on the team.

  2. DW Says:

Damn I really hope we are just resting both Kozzer and RVP for Sunday’s game against those other bone breaking bastards. I hate playing both these teams and now we have to play them after each other. Still have all the confidence in the world that we will beat them!! Walcott and Samir to score. Final score 2-0

    My predicting staring line up
    Sagna Song Djourou Clichy
    Wilshere Nasri Fabregas
    Walcott Chamakh Arshavin

  4. Kaycee Says:

I dn’t why dis two important players rvp nd kos wil pick up injury when we need them to close the gap on manuunited.anyway i wish dem best of luck. Ars.2 stock 0. My line up szczesny sagna Dj song clincy walcot wishere cesc ashavin nasir bendtner

  5. WISDOM Says:

Without any doubt,Arsenal wil destroy stoke city come wednesday.with or without VP OR KOS Nasri and Walcott are enough to kill€ off the game.

  6. Fm soundz Says:

I’ll prefer bendtner to lead d attack cos chamakh is cracker-doo at d moment.

  7. andy Says:

If that fool Delap beats us with those throws, I’m gonna throw myself out the window

  8. dapo Says:

Gunners for life! My fear is squilichi and chamak. I will prefer Bethner to strike.

  9. Chuks Says:

I think arsenal wil beat them 2-0 wit Arsh being in the scorers list. But let betner play instead of chamac.

  10. FoolishgooNer Says:

Haha@Andy! I shouldn’t be laughing at frustrated fan who threatens to launch himself from a window. That long throw is a concern indeed. Because they have John Crew to get behind it. We should be up before half time though. Let’s get the three points! I think Chamak will come good with theo’ nasri’ cecs around him. On last note I will join throwing myself from the same window if chamak starts and misses/passes a sitter again. Besides that JD SQ plus Woj should be able to handle air threat of stoke! Cheers mate I smell three points.

  11. Chuks Says:

I don’t think there wil b a problem in defence. Wit Dj nd song present in d game we’ar ok defensively.

  12. Chuks Says:

Gooner, you’re right nothin less than 3 points.

  13. nicky Says:

    Andy & Foolishgooner
Is there room in the window for a little guy?

  14. max Says:

nb52 is the better option for the cf, although he’s not immune to silly mistakes he looks sharper at the moment than chamakh.

  15. Charlie Says:

Very bad record with Squillaci playing this season so I fear a close game but there should be enough up front to nick it. Seems crazy considering the fixture but remember we conceeded 4 in 45 minutes last time Squillaci played a league game. Up front I’d probably go for Bendtner instead of Chamakh but how about a front three of Sami, Theo and Arshavin ? Avoid fighting them for aerial balls and exploit the slowness (assumed) of their defence. To be honest I don’t know that much about Stoke so any comments from those more knowledgable than me ?

  16. Charlie Says:

Weird stat to contradict myself btw. When Arsenal last won the Prem they had the tallest team in the league. When Chelsea last won they had the tallest team in the league. Arsenals’ current squad is the shortest in the league.

  17. G-g-Gooner Says:

I love your choice for the starting eleven as I would also go with the same but would have Bendtner in place of the tolotolo(turkey-bird) Chamakh; thank God you did not mention Squillaci. He is a no-good squirrel who keeps costing us with own-goals, penalties and red cards! Where ever they got him from??:

    Sagna Song Djourou Clichy
    Wilshere Nasri Fabregas
    Walcott Bendtner Arshavin

  18. Charlie Says:

Song won’t play CB. He’s probably not trained in that position all year and when it comes to offside traps, who to do the covering and who to close down etc. he won’t be on the same wavelength. We’ll all get nervous when the ball is around Squillaci but he will be in the starting XI I guarantee.

  19. Gunners Says:

Gunners must continue their winning streak wit or no RVP

  20. Gunners Says:

Squilacci shouldnt start dis game instead miquel
